EBRD appoints Jürgen Rigterink as first vice-president of client services

Jürgen Rigterink, CEO of FMO, will step down in spring of 2018 to join the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

Jürgen Rigterink has announced he is preparing to leave his role as CEO of Dutch development bank FMO to become first vice-president of client services at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Rigterink, who has worked at FMO since 2008, will begin his new duties in the spring of 2018. He takes over from Phil Bennett.

In a personal note to colleagues and associates, he commented: “I envisaged that at some point in my career I would make the transition to one of the leading multilateral banks. I would have much preferred if this had come later, but the opportunity to combine banking with policy making with one of the world’s leading multilaterals only comes by once.”

By leading the bank’s client service group, he will take responsibility for its banking operations, policy reform dialogue and partnerships.

Before starting at FMO, he worked in the private sector at ABN AMRO. There he ran the bank’s operations in Kazakhstan.

“Jürgen Rigterink has a very deep knowledge of both the development arena and commercial banking – a combination which will allow us to press our advantage in the way that we deliver project investment and support economic reform in our countries of operation,” said Sir Suma Chakrabarti, president of EBRD.
