Deal Round-Up: EBRD provides loan to microfinance firm for Mongolian SMEs

  • The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development continues to support micro and small businesses in Mongolia with a loan to microfinance institution, Transcapital. The loan will be provided in the local currency to the tune of 6 billion Mongolian tugrik.
  • The International Finance Corporation has signed off an equity investment in the Procaps Group, a Colombian pharmaceutical company, which supports its expansion into new markets to promote access to affordable healthcare products in Latin American.
  • Dutch development bank FMO and the EBRD are extending a US$65 million loan to fund a 51 Megawatt solar plant located in the Al-Safawi area of northern Jordan.
  • FMO has contributed 200,000 euros to The Technical Assistance Facility of the SANAD Fund for MSME. The grant comes from the MASSIF Fund, which FMO manages on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • CDC Group plc, the UK’s development finance institution, has invested US$20m in Solon Capital Holdings, an investment holding company based in Sierra Leone.
  • In collaboration with the EBRD, Proparco has made several commitments renewable energy in Egypt, partnering with the UNFCCC’s Green Climate Fund (GCF) on the projects, providing US$1 billion in funding, leaving US$352.3 million from EBRD and US$154.7mn from the GCF.
  • Working on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), KfW has signed a grant in the amount of 15 million euros to connect 80,000 residents in Liberia to the electricity grid in the country’s capital of Monrovia.
  • The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gazprom to build its relationship with the state-owned firm for procurement as well as financial support to secure stable energy sources that benefit Japanese companies.
